Wedding Videographer Considerations

If you are reading this article, chances are you have recently gotten engaged and are looking for a wedding videographer. Firstly, congratulations I hope all the planning is running smoothly. Below are some of our wedding videographer considerations which I think will be quite useful.

The reason I wanted to discuss wedding videographer considerations is there are so many different types of videographers in Ireland. Different videographers with different styles but also different film lengths. It’s really important that when you are booking your videographer you completely understand what is or isn’t included.

Wedding Videographer Considerations

Coverage

When we talk about wedding videography coverage we mean the length of time your videographer will cover/film. For example, at Croiative Films we cover preparations to dancing as a standard. While some other videographers might have a package which covers ceremony to dancing.

Videography Styles

This can be a little harder to distinguish but you should notice a difference in videography styles. For example, documentary or cinematic. Documentary wedding videography is a style whereby the day is presented back as it happens, often in a linear timeline. Cinematic videography has also become quite a popular style in more recent years. Cinematic wedding films often look like a Hollywood movie and will use a lot of cinematic techniques to bring them to life. We would classify our own type of videography as cinematic.

Film Lengths

Film lengths is one of our main wedding videographer considerations. I was once ask to film a wedding for a couple who were looking for a 4 hour wedding film. I don’t shoot weddings that 4 hours long so I couldn’t take the booking. Croiative Films packages offers a short 3-5 minute highlight and a longer film with speeches and ceremony. On the other hand, I also know videographers who deliver 10-12 minute films as the final product. Make sure to go through this with your videographer so you know exactly what the final product length will be.

Booking Process

When you are planning a wedding it can be very costly even in just the initial booking phase. Couples will often find themselves handing out deposits left, right and centre to different vendors to secure them. Make sure when you are booking your videographer you are clear on what your deposit will be. I would also recommend asking when full payment is due.
